Learning a voyage of discovery into the wonderful world of nature

The Compost Bin, the page where you do gardening and help the environment

Click and drag a treat out of the bag. Click again (still in the dog's kennel) high above him. He will enjoy your treat. You can also play ball with Dougal. Go to the bottom of the page for pictures of the real Dougal!

Special Goofall report: "Of course I'm better than Dougal!"

A fabulous poem I did about the environment, and I really like...

 The Environment poem

Factory fumes, with petrol too,

Car exhausts burn away,

Even tobacco once lusciously grew,

Destroying the field, the forest, the bay.

Jungles destroyed and animals killed,

All very bad as many are dead

To make way for farms, to be milled,

The backyard used to make beer and mead.

Poor people are starving and their children are scared,

All very thirsty, all the while,

While the men are labouring, nobody cared,

These people live near to home of the crocodile.

Recycle bags and tubs galore,

Or reuse them again and again,

Just do that and you’ll help more,

To saving our planet and all its men.

Lightening flashes and a crashing wave,

These make up our world,

All this the environment gave,

Some things are straight, others curled.

If you use the bike, not car,

Then you’ll help the world, as the topic’s ajar,

If you use a fairtrade choc bar,

You’ll help farmers wherever they are.

Anyway, a good way to care for the environment is to make a compost bin or buy one. Fill it with garden waste such as dead plants and pruned clippings as well as kitchen scraps like stale bread and peelings of fruit and potatoes. And the final ingredient is some good tiger worms (from angling shops) and/or earthworms. When it has rotted away, some good compost will be left, full of helpful worms that will benefit the soil. By the way tiger worms are quite attractive, hence their name. It is best to kick start your compost bin with tiger worms and the earthworms will arrive naturally.
